During our epic trip to South Africa we spent a few days at Inverdoorn Game Reserve, where we slept in a 5 star luxury chalet, enjoyed our meals under the small Karoo sky full of shimmering stars, and witnessed some amazing animal moments.
Why Inverdoorn Game Reserve?
The Game Reserve has over 1200 animals that roam free, including the Big 5 (lions, elephants, leopards, african buffalo, and rhinos) and their friends such as hippos, antelope, cheetahs, zebras etc. It consists of over 10,000 hectares of beautiful South African land surrounded by breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Also home of the Western Cape Cheetah Conservation (WCCC), an organization that rescues cheetahs and then rehabilitates them to release back into the wild. Cheetahs are highly endangered due to humans taking over their habitat and large predators killing off most of the cubs.
Inverdoorn also offers one on one encounters with cheetahs. The cheetah that we were able to interact with was named Velvet ~ she had a broken tail, putting her off balance, so unfortuantely she will never be rehabilitated, but she loves people. We were able to pet her, walk her and relax with her as if she were a house cat. Pretty remarkable.
Inverdoorn is only a 2.5 hour drive outside of Cape Town and well worth spending 2-3 days there.
