As Instagram is becoming more and more “searchable” Keywords are more important than ever when it comes to optimizing your account.
So what exactly are keywords?
Keywords are what people type into the search bar if they are trying to learn about something.
So if you search “European Christmas Markets”, this is considered a keyword because it is a “search”.
Now, if your content answers the “search”, Instagram wants to be able to populate your post to the right people searching for this. It allows Instagram to categorize your content and for you to be more easily discovered on the platform.
This is why it is so important to niche down and be consistent with your keywords and have a STRONG instagram strategy = to help instagram show you to the RIGHT people {your ideal community}!
So how do you figure this out?
When you think of your industry niche…what are people typing into the google search bar to find you?
Take that word or phrase and go to YouTube and Pinterest. When you put that phrase into those search bars you will see MORE words and phrases populate. Those phrases are the most entered searches.
{Google Trends or trends.google.com is also a good place to look.}
Be sure to choose 3-5 very specific keywords that are constantly being used throughout your content.
If you have a good strategy and you’ve narrowed down your content pillars you can start a “keyword bank” for each pillar.
Where do you want to use keywords?
You’ll want to start by placing keywords In your bio “name field” because this part of your profile is searchable and you want your profile to show up to those looking for your industry.
You also want to be sure to include them in your bio description.
