It’s not officially spring in Boston until the beautiful Boston magnolias come into bloom.
These stunning trees are scattered throughout the city. They’re mostly found in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston.
They line the streets of Commonwealth Avenue, Beacon street, and Marlborough Street. It’s always a joy to see the stunning Boston magnolias open up because it means the sunshine and warm weather have finally arrived after a long, New England winter.
Boston magnolias start to bloom around Mid-April. Star and Saucer Magnolias full of pink hues such as fuchsias and blush while also boasting white tones. They add an ethereal romantic ambience to Boston’s historical brownstones making the streets come alive this time of year.
The Spring Season is perfect to explore the Back Bay neighborhood. The trendy restaurants open their patios and the streets are swarmed with Boston residents, enjoying not only the views but the perfect weather as the sip on their cocktails.
If you’re in town during this time of year, and the Boston magnolias are in bloom, the best time of the day to go is an hour or two before the sunsets typically around 5:30pm. If you go first thing in the morning, the sun will be too stark and bright. During the golden hour the magnolias glow with the fading light. It’s a great excuse to have a date night by perusing the trees and then hopping over to Newbury Street to enjoy dinner and cocktails Al fresco.

Very Happy email and I will plan on seeing the Magnolias this year. Covid kept everyone at bay missing some of Mother Nature’s most spectacular events in Boston!
