A Video Stroll Through Charlestown
The weather in Boston has been {slowly} warming up and Matt and I have been making a list of all the places we want to explore now that it’s nice out again! First on the list was Charlestown, an incredibly charming neighborhood with Irish-American roots. Every where you go there are stunning sights of the Bunker Hill Monument, or the Tobin Bridge. Both make beautiful backdrops to the quaint streets full of old colonials, brightly painted clapboard houses, and brownstones.
I was immediately in love with all of the pastel colors and pretty storefronts Charlestown has to offer. While Charlestown is considered a neighborhood in Boston, its location offers a quieter perspective on city living. Much more family-oriented with a classic hometown feel. And the dogs! Dogs were everywhere!
As Boston’s oldest neighborhood, Charlestown is steeped in history. Boston’s most popular walk, the Freedom Trail, ends in Charlestown at the Bunker Hill Monument, commemorating the Battle of Bunker Hill which happened in the beginning of the American Revolutionary War.
Another stop on the Freedom Trail in Charlestown is the U.S.S. Constitution {also known as old ironsides} the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat. She gained most of her fame in the War of 1812 where she captured numerous British warships. Today you can swing by and take a tour of her – I highly recommend it!
