Waitsfield Vermont is THE quintessential Vermont town. It’s everything you think of when you think of Vermont….and more.
It’s full of rolling hills, family-owned farms, friendly people, good food, and views. The views are some of the best I’ve seen in New England. Located in the Mad River Valley this quiet little town sits between the Green Mountain Range, and the Northfield Mountains. The main road is Vermont Route 100, which is a road you want to get lost on.
Here are my suggestions for Waitsfield:
Where to Stay
1824 House is without a doubt one of the most charming inns I’ve stayed at. Eric and Karyn, the innkeepers, are so sweet and I loved getting to know them. Eric was a chef in Jackson Hole, Wyoming before they moved out here. Breakfast was my favorite part of the day with the fresh home cooked delicious food overflowing on my plate. He also makes the best scones on this side of the pond.
In the evenings they have a fire pit where you can sit and talk to them, and other guests. It’s always great to hear other people’s stories while enjoying a glass of wine.
There is a gorgeous red post and beam barn on the property they use for events. And there is also a trail that follows the Mad River, which is the perfect way start to your day.
1824 House is an old farmhouse that gives you that rustic, cozy Vermont experience everyone craves. I fell in love with that place, and I know you will too.
What to do:
Shopping:
Waitsfield’s beauty is something to behold. In turn, it has caught the attention of many artists and restaurant owners. While strolling through town pop into a couple of art galleries to see how the areas natural beauty has inspired incredible art.
Get lost:
Anyone that lives in New England will tell you the best stuff is on the road less traveled. We save our beauty for the ones that seek it out. Trust me, it doesn’t take long to find something stunning, especially in this town!
Farm Stands:
There are so many amazing farms and farm stands that you should swing into. You never know what you are going to find to take home with you!
Ski:
If you are visiting the Mad River Valley in the winter then head to Sugarbush or the Mad River Glen. Both are phenomenal ski locations (or so I’ve heard since I do not ski)!
Warren Falls:
Located just outside the town of Warren is Warren Falls, a pretty little trail that leads you to multiple sets of falls. They are beautiful and perfect for any photographer to capture any time of the year!
Where to eat:
American Flatbread:
A local favorite, this lively restaurant serves up tasty flatbreads you can watch them make in their wood fired pizza oven. They use locally grown ingredients and you can taste the freshness. People come from all over to try their famous apple pie so don’t forget dessert!
Peasant:
Peasant is a Tuscan Influenced restaurant located in the heart of the Waitsfield Village. Its cozy vibes and warm ambience pull you in and you never want to leave. Definitely order the pasta here. It’s worth it. The owner/chef actually makes it a point to come out of the kitchen and ask the patrons if they enjoyed their meal, and I enjoyed talking to him!
This little Vermont town stole my heart and I can’t say enough about it. If you are looking for the true Vermont Experience then you need to head to Waitsfield!

I just saw the leaves of the northeast this year on a work trip to Williams College. I’m absolutely obsessed and want to do the whole leaf peeping thing (minus the bus) now. I’ve also been wanting to take cooking classes at King Arthur Flour in Vermont, so you’ve pretty much sold me on a fall trip to Vermont. This looks magical! #citytripping

What a beautiful place to visit! I would love to come here in autumn to hike to the waterfalls and just enjoy the colors. I think your photos are amazing, and I bet it was even more spectacular in real life.
