The Hotel Del Coronado is a historic landmark in Coronado, California. It is always beaming with entertainment, festive cocktails and seasonal fun. Built in 1888, the iconic resort has hosted Presidents and foreign Royalty, along with setting the scene for many Hollywood movies and books. Its Victorian Style brings an old world aura that transports you back in a time of tea and crumpets, gentleman in top hats and ladies in full skirts with their hair swept up on top of their heads. In essence, you are transcended back to a charming time in American History when the romantic era is coming to an end. All life is beauty, romance, art and literature.
So it’s safe to say that The Hotel Del Coronado is a dazzling sight to behold during the holidays. For starters, they have an ice rink set up outside, over looking the expansive pacific ocean. That’s right, you can ice skate while watching the sun set across a magnificent horizon. Sparkling lights encompass the property making it glow in a whimsical, imaginative way. In multiple courtyards there are little hot cocoa and coffee stands, but to really spice up your evening you should order a “Saucy Hot Apple Cider” ~ made of Vodka, cinnamon schnapps, an apple cider ~ yum!!
After you order your drink of choice make your way into the specialty shops that line the old authentic wood paneled hallways. The shops contain a children’s store, clothing boutiques, a candy shop with homemade fudge, and the list goes on. After perusing the shops, and grabbing a couple Christmas gifts, head upstairs to the lobby and admire the soaring tree that steals the show from all the ornate decor that screams old Victorian style. Don’t forget to swing into the Signature Shop to pick up a Hotel Del ornament, that changes design every year.
Finally, on your way out, take a stroll through the garden patio to see their newest showcase; DELights. They have an electrically lit Christmas tree with a plethora of twinkling lights that create a winter wonderland.
Not only does the Hotel Del set the standard for Holiday Decor, they have numerous activities for adults and kids alike, from cookie decorating, smores and skating, carolers, and story time with Mrs. Claus. You can see their event calendar here.
