March and April were sad reading months for me…I completed four books in the beginning of the March, then I had to put my dog down, and the pandemic hit the world like a freight train. Needless to say my concentration hasn’t been up to par since…..which also explains why this post includes two months, and the list is still not the longest…but let’s get to it because there are still some great reads! Take a look at March & April Reading.
April Reading List
Everything is Figureoutable – 5/5 Stars
by Marie Forleo
Best Paired With Il Poggiano Brancato Rosé: “rose color; on the nose it shows floral flavors, red fruits and spices. On the palate, its body and freshness make it an excellent rose with the structure of a young Sangiovese.”
Marie Forleo nails it in her latest book as she goes into detail on just how much mindset plays a role in your life. She tells story after story from a young girl, up until her days now as a successful business entrepreneur, serving others by helping them build their best businesses and their best lives. It’s upbeat, it’s relatable, and it really can push you to start doing that one thing you’ve always wanted to do.
Dare to Lead – 4/5 Stars
by Brene Brown
Best Paired With Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon: “Round and juicy, our Cabernet Sauvignon has flavors of blackberry, toasted hazelnut and cinnamon, complemented by hints of vanilla and toasted oak.”
Dare to lead is a book that every business owner should read. Brene brown does an excellent job of breaking down vulnerability and how it will lead to success in your business. It gives you step by step keys points, how to meet in the middle with your employees, and not only be an amazing boss, but help your employees to become the best they can be for you.
It’s an all around great leadership book. And even if you don’t own a business. I can’t recommend it enough because the key points for life in general are great.
The Perfect Girlfriend – 4/5 Stars
by Karen Hamilton
Best Paired With: Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc: “Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc White Wine is fresh and juicy with ripe, tropical flavors of passion fruit, melon and stone fruit.”
This was a great thriller with an ending I didn’t see coming. Boy Meets Girl, they fall in love. Boy breaks up with Girl. Shady girl decides to go get a job in his industry, and basically reclaim what’s hers in her in her mind. i
Needless to say, her reality is a bit skewed from what’s really going on. It was quite a pleasure reading.
The Poison Garden – 4/5 Stars
by A.J. Banner
Best Paired With White Haven Sauvignon Blanc: “Whitehaven captures bright citrus flavors of grapefruit and lemongrass in this crisp, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc. Superbly structured and balanced, aromas and flavors of fresh-snipped greens and warm pear nectar blend with notes of tropical fruit. Each glass boasts the long, clean finish of classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.”
Another thriller set in a quiet island off of Seattle. Elise seems to have the perfect life, the perfect house, and the perfect career in herbal gardening that has been passed down by her mother.
Not too far into the book you soon realize it’s all a show, and so does Elise. I’ve read this book in a matter of a few hours. And it was quite juicy with twists and turns just like any good thriller is expected to be.
Open Book – 4.5/5 Stars
by Jessica Simpson
Best Paired with Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio: While Simpson’s drink of choice in Open Book was vodka + soda water in a “glitter cup”, we’ll keep the wine theme going with a fresh pinto grigio. “With its straw yellow color, clean intense aroma, and dry golden apple taste, our signature Pinot Grigio is full of authentic, flavorful personality.”
Jessica Simpson’s Open Book was the first book, I actually tried out after putting Audelina down. I had zero concentration. I couldn’t open a book to save my life so I had to listen to it on audio. I had read some reviews and heard a bunch of people talk about what a great job it did describing the music industry, spilling the tea with John Mayer, her struggles with alcohol addiction, and all coming from a girl who grew up with a Southern Christian background.
Honestly, it was the perfect listen when your thoughts are sidetracked because she does such a brilliant job writing the stories of her life, and the struggles that she’s had in such a vivid way to bring you back in focus . You want to keep listening, and you want to hear everything that has happened behind the scenes in her life.
So much that went on in her life was extremely eye opening to the music industry and how women are treated. I Highly recommend recommend the audio version because I love her southern drawl.
Get Out of Your Own Way – 4/5 Stars
by Dave Hollis
Best Paired with: Gachot-Monot Cote de Nuits Village Burgundy: “This is a special cuvee which comes from a plot of the same name “Les Chaillots” in old Burgundian French which means ‘Les Cailloux’ (the Pebbles) which exactly describes this plot where the soil is very stony with natural drainage. The soil produces complex wines which are expressed in fruity notes of cherry, blackberry & forest floor. This wine should be consumed within 5 to 7 years after bottling.”
This was a great audio listen for me as well. Not only is Dave Hollis a brilliant speaker, but listening to him read his story was an absolute pleasure. It’s interesting when you read any kind of motivational or inspirational book, you kind of think they’re almost like infomercials. But not in today’s age as Dave breaks down all the lies that we tell each other and the lies that he told himself.
It was funny, poignant, and right on track with exactly how a man thinks + comments, and what we say to ourselves. He breaks down each lie to find where it came from and discover his own truth. Definitely a great read if you’re looking to better your relationship, better your business. and just humbling yourself to become a better person.
