The Highline Trail is full of jaw dropping views and fluffy white mountain goats. Need I say more???
There are 3 options for this trail:
- The Granite Chalet – 15.2 miles round trip
- The Loop- 11.6 miles one way
- Haystack Pass – 8 miles round trip
We unfortunately only had time to go to Haystack Pass and back, but that alone was spectacular. You can pick up the Highline trail starting at Logan Pass where the picturesque scene starts immediately. The trail follows along the Continental Divide, also known as the garden wall. Vivid wildflowers and bear grass cloak the mountain sides. There are even glimpses of the Going To The Sun Road, VERY far below.
This Highline trail is definitely not for the faint of heart with heights. A quarter of a mile into the trail is a ledge with a width of only 4-6ft. There is hand cable to help people that need it (ME!) for 3/10ths of a mile. As I sighed with relief when that was over I quickly realized it did not get much better. The Highline continues on along the garden wall with steep drop offs. Glacier Park’s natural beauty is the highlight of this trail, even though the sheer heights can be intimidating. Because of the steep drop offs it is recommended that kids do not hike the trail.
Big horn sheep and mountain goats love Logan’s pass so you’ll see plenty of them. The mountain goats are actually quite large, and they will not move out of the way. In fact they expect you to move. Grizzly territory is more predominant on the western side of the park, so there is a low chance at catching one of these guys on the trail.
The scenic backdrop, the mountain goats, the wild flowers, the seasonal waterfalls all make this trail a must do while visiting Glacier National Park.

Stunning photography. Glacier National Park is one of my favorites, though I may be a little bit biased since I lived in MT for a few years. Thanks for linking up with #wkendtravelinspiration!
