Check Out the Best Things to Do in Stonington CT in this Video:
This Spring I had the opportunity to experience Stonington Borough in Connecticut. Full of historical charm this seaside destination stole my heart the moment I drove down Water Street. Life is slower in Stonington. It’s full of family owned shops, art galleries, and restaurants full of savory fresh seafood and enticing cocktails. The Borough also boasts friendly locals whom not only say hello on the street but they stop and ask how you are doing.
In the heart of the Borough is the Inn at Stonington. A beautifully appointed boutique inn with 18 spacious rooms, each individually designed. The mood is New England Coastal, with traditional nods to the regional classics; stone fireplaces, colonial blues, and high ceilings adorned with intricate trim-work.
My room had seaside views with a gas fireplace, which made it hard to wake up early to explore. In New England there is nothing better than curling up in a large cozy bed with the fireplace going and a book. Speaking of bed, the linens at the Inn at Stonington are some of the best linens I’ve slept on during my New England travels!!!
The Staff at the Inn is beyond helpful and they always have a smile on their face. Upon meeting everyone you instantly feel as if you are at home. During my stay at the Inn I talked with numerous guests who frequently make trips to Stonington because they love staying at the Inn at Stonington so much!
Every morning you can sleepily make your way to their coffee bar which is lined with aromatic coffee, an array of fresh warm pastries, fruit, yogurt, and other homemade breakfast items. Each night you can enjoy a cocktail during the Inn’s Wine + Cheese hour from 6-7. Enjoy your glass of wine in their grand living room, or take it outside and enjoy it around the fire pit {I plan on heading back this fall to experience this durning those perfectly crisp, cool nights}.
The Borough is a relatively small village and you can easily walk throughout most of it at leisure, or the Inn as Stonington will also provide beach cruisers for you to explore the area. If you stop by the front desk Aubrey or Sue will happily give you tips for how to fill your day. Be sure to ask for a printout of their historical walking tour, which will give you some insight on the historical homes and some of the early families that shaped the Stonington Borough.
There are plenty of things to do within Stonington Borough {be sure to check out my TOP 10 THINGS TO DO IN STONINGTON, CT list}. But if you want to explore the area a little more you can take a drive to Watch Hill, RI or Mystic, CT, both of which are only minutes away from the Inn at Stonington.
I, however, knew from the first moment I entered Stonington Borough I was going to take a minute to slow down, enjoy the village, get to know the locals, and soak in every minute. Turns out 2 days wasn’t enough so I extended my trip one more night, and I couldn’t have been happier unwinding in this little town of coastal New England perfection.
