Rockland is one of my favorite towns in Maine, yet gets little notice when compared to other coastal harbors in the state. This small town working harbor has big-time appeal. And 250 Main Hotel stepped up to the plate with its modern interiors, gorgeous roof top deck, and let’s not forget, their wine hour!
Recently name Maine’s “Art Capital” Rockland boasts an impressive “Maine Art Museum Trail” which includes eight museums. Artists are flocking to this down to earth city and drawing in inspiration wherever they go. Besides the museums, you have two bright and colorful wall murals. Both, Farnsworth museum led projects, had Youth Arts of the Maine Community Foundation to engage the area’s youth in painting the massive murals.
The art isn’t the only place with creativity in Rockland. The food scene is incredible. I was actually shocked at how delicious and brilliant the restaurants in the area are. I was able to sit with the owner of Cafe Miranda, Kerry, for a bit and the man is as lively and enjoyable as his menu. Gelato Rose, right down the street, serves a great cup of coffee and their gelato can’t be beat. If your lucky Cecile will be helping you and she couldn’t be sweeter.
{I will be touching more in-depth on the Rockland food scene in a later post}
It’s easy to see why Rockland is an artists’ haven when you stop and look around. Besides the glistening harbor, there are three beautiful lighthouses all within a short drive from the city. LIghthouses are iconic to Maine’s coast and have provided artistic influence for years.
All of these attributes are summed up beautifully in the brand new boutique hotel 250 Main. Besides a sleek exterior, the interior is decadently designed to showcase the modern step forward Rockland is headed in. There are also numerous prints on display throughout the hotel. A couple of rooms have balconies (check out the one in my room in the video!). But the magic is on the rooftop deck. It’s the best seat in the house. The perfect place for a cup of coffee at sunrise or a cocktail at sunset.
If you get a chance to travel coastal Maine, be sure not to miss this spectacular town and 250 Main Hotel!
*This trip was in partnership with 250 Main Hotel. Thank you to 250 Main Hotel for hosting me, and as always, all opinions are my own.
