While some people would tend to shy away from long weekends in the middle of winter in New England, it is actually a spectacularly beautiful time of year to visit.  Barns covered in fresh coats of snow, restaurants serving up local farm-to-table style menus and seafood, and warming up in front of a fire watching the snow come down are all things that New England is excellent at showcasing during the long cold winter months.  So instead of looking into a tropical getaway consider these five romantic getaways in New England perfect for Valentine’s Day.

This picturesque New England town is an ideal Valentine’s Day location!  With a pedestrian village, covered bridge, and local artisan shops, there is plenty to see and do in Woodstock.  Stroll past historic homes on the green lined with white picket fences and drive the back country roads to find beautiful red barns contrasted by fresh coats of snow.

Kennebunkport, Maine

In southern Maine lies the idyllic coastal town Kennebunkport full of lobster shacks, brilliant architecture, and popular beaches.  Dock Square is full of antique shops, local artisans, dining establishments, and art galleries that make a lovely day to stroll through.

Right next to Kennebunkport is Cape Porpoise, a darling lobster-fishing village full of grammable moments.

Stonington Borough is full of historical charm and this seaside destination stole my heart the moment I drove down Water Street. Life is slower in Stonington. It’s full of family owned shops, art galleries, and restaurants full of savory fresh seafood and enticing cocktails. The Borough also boasts friendly locals whom not only say hello on the street but they stop and ask how you are doing.

Breakwater sits right on top of the water and sits right on the water with the best view for a romantic sunset.  Just make yourself comfortable the evening because the dinner here is outstanding!

Boston, Massachusetts

Did you really think I would leave out my favorite city, my home, and a place I hold dear to my heart for many reasons?  A city with rich history, savory cuisine, and an air of sophistication that invites you in, and then charms you with its charismatic character. Boston has also been listed as the third most walkable city in the United States, making it easy to see all it has to offer in a long weekend getaway.
