Whale Watching in San Diego Harbor! This weekend Matt and I boarded the Hornblower in hopes to see some Gray Whales. Not only did the we see 6 gray whales, we were also excited to see common dolphins, and an extremely playful humpback whale!
Every year from December to March/April the gray whale makes its migration from the arctic frigid waters down to the Baja Coast where the females give birth. This is the longest animal migration and can take them 2-3 months to complete, only to stay in Baja for 4-6 weeks, and then they make the long journey home again. During whale season you can spot up to 8 gray whales an hour making the long trek south.
We chose Hornblower Cruises for our tour for a number of reasons. There was indoor and outdoor seating, they offered a snack bar, it was a nice 3.5 hours, and most importantly, they have a full bar. Let’s be honest, there is always the possibility that you won’t see anything, so you can at least have a cocktail. The tickets are $45 a person on Saturdays and Sundays, and $40 during the week.
After dinner we walked over to the fish market ~ next to the Midway, our neighbor is always raving about it. Pro tip ~ its always packed, so instead of waiting for a table go to the little room on the right hand side as soon as you enter. It is a little sushi bar with first come first serve seating. Since so many tourists think its part of the restaurant no one goes over there, resulting in open spots for you to enjoy some of the best sushi we’ve had in San Diego!

Cheers!
