New England is known for its beautiful coastlines and picturesque coastal towns. But Newport, Rhode Island quickly grew into one of our favorites! Its sweet colonial homes, historical waterfronts and great restaurants make this a perfect New England getaway! So check out this travel guide to Newport!
Day 1:
Arrive in Newport and check in. If you need hotel suggestions I highly recommend The Attwater Hotel. Check out my Hotel Review!
Head out to for a couple appetizers and light dinner with a great wine list at Fluke Newport.
Day 2:
Breakfast at The Attwater Hotel and explore the mansions. We saw three mansions the first full day; Rosecliff, The Breakers, and Marble House. These summer homes during the Gilded Age are absolutely incredible. The detail and architecture is just beyond. I did a post on the Newport Mansions – Rhode Island’s Newport Mansions: The Architectural Series. Next head over to The Black Pearl for lunch and be sure to get their famous clam chowder! While there check out the Bannister’s wharf, and then head over to Newport’s historic Thames Street. This color cobble stoned street is lined with cute cafes and shops.
Day 3:
Start your morning off at Empire Tea & Coffee, and be sure to try the red velvet tea latte! Next take a cup to go and explore the Cliff walk. This is a 3.5 mile in and out walk along some of Newport’s most jaw dropping coastline while giving you another perspective of the mansions. After you finish up your walk discover The Elms, and Chateau-Sur-Mer to finish your gilded age tour. Head on over to Midtown Oysters to eat some of New Englands finest oysters and grab an afternoon cocktail. After you’ve filled up at the raw bar take a drive to Castle Hill lighthouse! Everyone loves a classic New England lighthouse! Continue the drive down Ocean Drive to see more of Newport’s iconic coastline and take in the views. Head back to the hotel and take a rest, or wander around the historical homes surrounding the Attwater. To finish off your day make sure to dine at The Whitehorse Tavern, the oldest bar in America! The food here is incredible! Be sure to start with the Duck Scotch Egg. oh. my. god. SO GOOD! I highly recommend making reservations and the dress is business casual.
