Values play a big role in your customers or clients deciding to work with you. Let’s talk about why your brand’s core values are one of the most important parts of starting and running your business.
Let’s start by actually discussing what Core Values are – they are fundamental beliefs that guide your behaviors, decisions, and actions. Essentially they become your bible – a moral code of conduct that you can always refer back to.
Core Values should be your highest priority, the basic foundation for which you build your business on.
Consider the these Values as a set of train tracks, and your business is the train – if the tracks aren’t placed as the most important aspect of the railroad system, your train will become derailed – and fast.
Core Values also make your brand’s purpose very clear – did you know that 63% of consumers say they want to buy products + services from companies that have a purpose that resonates with their values and belief systems?
Here are the 3 main reasons you need to know your brand’s core values – inside and out.
Your Brands Core Values
1. They guide your decisions.
Remember when I said Core values are like your bible for your company? Your moral conduct manual?
This is also why they help you make minor and major decisions – and make it easier for you to make. Instead of quickly reacting to situations you can use your values to reflect on the problem. Your core values help you make more logical and less emotionally affected decisions.
Have you ever considered yourself a yes person? Saying NO to others is just so hard? Well your values also help make your No’s and yes’s so much clearer – if they don’t align your decision is an automatic no.
2. Keeps your brand authentic with consistency
Showing your brand’s integrity and authenticity comes with consistency – and your core values are your compass in guiding your decisions with your beliefs. Knowing these values helps your community understand what is important to your brand
3. Cultivates your community.
Let that settle in for a minute…
You aren’t using core values to create a set of rules, but rather a community standard where like minded individuals share ideals about what really matters to them.
Most successful brands aren’t just out there selling products but rather building communities for their consumers – inviting them into their brand story {i touch on this in my video on connecting with your audience through your personal brand- you can click on the link here to watch it}
Your core values are also the heart of your company culture. Be sure to consistently discuss your core values in your business – highlight them in meetings, stories that represent values, and add to your day to day language.
Over 50% of executives agree company culture influences productivity, creativity, and ultimately – profitability.
