Brant Point Lighthouse was first established in 1746, making it the 2nd oldest lighthouse in America, and is an iconic Nantucket landmark. The lighthouse has been burned and rebuilt many times, considering that most lighthouses were built with wood in the early days, this was a normal occurrence with their oil burning lanterns. It is actually New England’s shortest lighthouse, with Brant Point Light shining at just 26 feet tall. Brant Point sits at the entrance of the harbor and welcomes you upon your arrival to the magical little island.
I shot this photograph on a very chilly December morning. The wind was whipping and the sky was clear, making for some beautiful winter white tones. I love the play of light on the grass as the sun starts up the horizon, making this scene ever so soft and ethereal.
