Located on the outskirts of Rockport Massachusetts is the elegant, boutique hotel, the Emerson Inn. Although recently renovated, the innkeepers kept the integral character and charm of the 19th mid century era.
Upon arriving at the coastal Inn you’ll notice the white clapboard exterior, complimented by its forest green shutters. A front porch with four rocking chairs lazily moving with the breeze welcome you to your getaway. While checking in take a glance at the antique mahogany secretaries desk, and the old safe behind the counter.
Drop your bags in one of the 36 beautifully restored rooms, while taking a moment to appreciate the view. All the rooms have been painted a coastal blue heather, while the bathrooms have been updated with a bright white finish.
Next, head down the sweeping grand staircase inot the parlor and admire the expansive space with the beautiful tall coffered ceilings, and the original wide planked honey colored floors bathed in sunlight from the numerous windows. The parlor is made cozy by multiple seating sections consisitng of victorian style furniture, textures, and fabrics. In the corner is an old fashioned bar with stools that invite you over for a refreshing cocktail.
Enjoy this drink while talking with the friendly bartender, or head outside to the veranda and claim your rocking chair for the real show, one of New Englands brillant sunsets. Watch the skies begin to paint the clouds in tones of lavendar, coral, and amber. In these rocking chairs you can singlehandedly witness the scenery that has inspired so many artists that hail from the New England area.
Make sure to enjoy dinner at the Pigeon Cove Tavern. With a menu consisting of local fresh ingredients that adds flare to the American Style cuisine. I started off with the cheeseboard, and then chose the pan seared salmon over risotto as my main course. It did not disappoint and was actually one of the best risottos I have ever had. The restautant partners with Rockport fisherman and nearby farms to create the fresh flavor that shines through every bite.
Although the Emerson Inn has all the amenities you could ask for, there is plenty to do in this quiet seaside town. Take a stroll down Bearskin Neck, one of the cutest New England allys around. While there be sure to stop into Roy’s Lobster for a fresh lobster roll. Then check out Motif #1. The iconic rustic red fishing shack that inspires artists and photographers around the world. You can schedule a whale watching tour and see multiple whale species. Take a drive down to Gloucester and check out Eastern Point Lighthouse on an idyllic harbor. And be sure to stretch your legs on the trails at Halibut Point State Park.
Rockport Massachusetts is a New England destination not to be missed, and the Emerson Inn is the perfect home base. Make sure to go check them out on Instagram here!
